Le Paradou is a delightful village filled with beautifully restored houses and colourful gardens. With its narrow, well-maintained streets, brightly painted shutters, restaurants decorated in Provencal style and tempting hand-craft boutiques, Le Paradou is a glorious example of Provence at its best. Le Paradou is only 4 kms to les Baux de Provence which is an extremely picturesque village with royal history. Les-Baux-de-Provence is a touristic site but that's not a discredit considering the beauty of the village and the surrounding Alpilles. While much of the southern part of the Alpilles is exposed rock, the northern slopes, where the road zig-zags down to (or up from) St. Rémy, is thickly forested. There are incredible rock formations in this part of the Alpilles, with the road sometimes seemingly cut through the solid rock with single strokes of some giant's knife. The name "baux" means a prominent cliff, but has become more well-known for the bauxite named after this region. Bauxite was first discovered in the Alpilles, and named after the village of Baux-de-Provence. The slopes of the Alpilles are covered with vineyards producing a wine – Coteaux-d’Aix en Provence- les-baux – with a growing reputation for excellence. Le Paradou is only 10 km to Saint Remy de provence and 30 kms to Avignon. Contact Leslie
